Community Spotlight: Dr. Dominique Vonador, Acupuncture Physician

Think about the health problems you deal with regularly. How do you treat these problems? If you’re not already seeing acupuncture physician Dr. Dominique Vonador of Acupuncture & Herbal Solutions, now’s the time to give acupuncture a try.

Dr. Dominique Vonador, Acupuncture Physician

Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine approach that’s been around for thousands of years. However, it’s gained more popularity in the U.S. only in recent decades. Acupuncture involves the use of thin, pain-free needles to restore the qi, or energy, in certain points of the body. Clinical studies within Western medicine are finding more and more positive results from acupuncture treatment; more doctors are recommending acupuncture as an alternative treatment to traditional medications or as an adjunct to traditional therapy.

Recently, the American College of Physicians—a group of 148,000 internal medicine physicians from around the world—listed acupuncture among its recommendations for first-line therapy for those with chronic low back pain, along with exercise, rehabilitation, and mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques.

Dr. Vonador, who has offices in both Bradenton and Ellenton, regularly performs acupuncture for a wide range of conditions, including

  • chronic back pain
  • headaches
  • plantar fasciitis
  • allergies
  • painful periods
  • sports injuries
  • weight loss
  • stress management
  • and much more.

Acupuncture isn’t the only tool in Dr. Vonador’s toolbox. After getting to know each patient a little better, she will customize a treatment plan that may include therapeutic massage, tuina, cupping, moxibustion, essential oils, and several other approaches. She can also discuss suggestions for healthier living through healthier eating and more physical activity.

Although patients may initially be scared of the needles used in acupuncture, Dr. Vonador will show them how small they are. They are then surprised to experience how relaxing acupuncture can be—some patients even fall asleep during treatment!

Dr. Vonador, AP, LAc, is a NCCAOM board-certified acupuncture physician and a Florida native. She ran track and field in college at Florida State University, graduating with her bachelor’s degree in biology and then studied acupuncture.
