Every year, when considering thank you gifts for our valued referral partners in the community, we seek out a local vendor with a special cause. In 2021, exhausted by the restrictions and stress of COVID, Home Helpers owner walked across the back parking lot of our office in Lansdale, curious to learn about the new tenant, Shane and Pepper Candle Company (https://shaneandpeppercandleco.com/pages/our-story). Frank walked in and met Marie Popiny and her husband, Brett, and learned their story about their son, Shane, and his special dog, Pepper.
From their website: “Shane is a pediatric stroke survivor and has cerebral palsy, and Pepper is his mobility service dog. In 2016, we started a fundraiser by creating natural soy candles raising funding for Shane’s mobility service dog through a non-profit called 4 Paws for Ability.
Why candles, you ask? When Shane was a baby/toddler, he loved to watch the glow from a candle as it brought calmness within him if he was having a bad day. Shane wants to offer the same feeling within your home when you light his candles.” In 2020, that is when Shane and Pepper Candle Company came to rise! “
Home helpers quickly supported the mission and purchased 60 candles to spread the message of their cause to our valued referral sources throughout the community, who were delighted and inspired.
Below is a picture of Shane, Pepper, his younger sister and brother, along with his mom, Marie. This was taken during the filming of a story for a local new channel, Fox 29 in Philadelphia.

Representing Home Helpers were Patti Soisson, our Director of Operations, and Lyndsay Lerch, in Human Resources. Home Helpers delights in the opportunity to offer students careers in caregiving, even if they are short-term while they are completing their studies in a related field. Over the years, we have employed hundreds of students of nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapy, social work and many more areas of study. What a great learning experience, and a chance for a glowing recommendation for their first fulltime professional job, and/or admission to graduate school.
Below is Patti engaged in discussions with a student regarding the rewarding positions available at Home Helpers.
