Home Helpers® Provides Personalized Assistance for Seniors in Tampa Bay

By Debbie Humphrey

I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season with family and friends, and have started the New Year in good health and with resolve to make 2018 the best year ever!

That being said, it is during this time after the holidays that my phone gets very busy and my email inbox gets inundated as sons, daughters, brothers, and sisters come away from their family time with serious concerns about loved ones who have declined and could really use some help with activities of daily living.

That’s why we’re here. Home Helpers® Clearwater has been providing personal assistance for personal assistance for seniors in Tampa Bay, and specifically, in North Pinellas and West Pasco counties, for the last ten years. In fact, we were awarded the Provider of Choice 2017 award from Home Care Pulse.

Our caregivers are all selected based on their desire and passion to work with seniors. Each is an employee of Home Helpers and are screened, bonded and insured.

Some of the services we provide include:

Companionship. Sometimes seniors simply need someone to talk to and engage with to keep their spirits up and minds firing on all cylinders. Playing cards or games, watching TV programs or movies, taking walks or perusing photo albums can do wonders for adults aging at home.

Meal Preparation. Nutrition is extremely important, especially as we age. If arthritis or other health conditions make it difficult to prepare meals, your loved one might not be getting the fuel their body needs to function as it should.

Grocery Shopping. Mobility and other health issues can present challenges when it comes to household and grocery shopping, and it’s vital groceries include nutritious vitamin-rich foods for meals and snacks.

Transportation Assistance & Pharmacy Pick-up. When your loved one is no longer able to drive themselves to doctor’s appointments, church, department stores, or pharmacy, it can be a real downer. Having a driver who can provide assistance with transportation can make a world of difference in their lives!

Light housekeeping. Certain health and mobility issues can render someone unable to do basic household chores they once tackled with no problem. Laundry, dishes, vacuuming and mopping can be burdensome tasks when there is no one to help.

Personal Care/Hygiene. Personal cleanliness is very important, especially when it comes to maintaining quality of life and optimal health. If your loved one is not able to practice daily/weekly hygiene practices like washing, bathing, and dental care, it can have negative effects on their state of mind, quality of life, and overall health.

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care. Not everyone is cut-out to manage situations involving a loved one who suffers with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. These circumstances require patience and understanding, and a level of specialized care that keeps the sufferer safe, comfortable, and un-agitated.

Medication reminders. If your loved one is prescribed medication that is necessary to manage a health condition or illness, and they forget to take it, or take too much in some cases, this is seriously problematic. Having someone offer medication reminders keeps dosages monitored and on track.

Emergency Response Units. Direct Link® monitoring services with medic alert devices can be lifesavers when a fall or other unfortunate event occurs. With Direct Link® your loved one has Help at the Touch of a Button™ when it is needed most.

Daily Check-in Calls. In many cases, seniors manage their personal care pretty well. However, following an illness, injury, hospital stay, or rehab, they simply need someone to check-in with them to determine if there are any immediate needs to be addressed. A smiling caregiver is happy to do that when your schedule doesn’t allow.

There is no contract, and there is no difference in rates for the types of services performed. We tailor our services to meet your needs and those of your loved one.
