Crafting Brightens Lives of Seniors Living Alone

On a recent business trip to New Orleans, I was accompanied by my two adult daughters. Interwoven in our busy conference schedule, we girls shared magnificent quality time and lots of fun together in the Big Easy! Cyndi Lauper got it right: “Girls just want to have fun!”

The thing is, it’s not just girls that want to have fun, people of all ages want to have a good time and enjoy their lives. That’s why it is important we spend quality time with our loved ones, especially seniors who live alone at home or in assisted living or nursing home facilities.

In cases such as these, boredom and loneliness are real issues. One way we can brighten the days of our special senior loved ones who live alone – especially with Easter right around the corner – is crafting!

I have fond memories of spending hours with my aunt doing everything from needlepoint, to stenciling fabric, to stringing, gluing and sewing buttons on practically anything! Crafts allow us to do something productive with our imaginations and our hands that result in something uniquely beautiful to the creator.

Pinterest is a social media platform that shares a wealth of ideas for crafting with seniors at Easter or any time of year. I have chosen several that are suitable for men or women of any age, and they are perfect for personal use or inexpensive gifts.

I have collected several Pinterest ideas you may consider, and who knows? Maybe they will spark your own creativity!

Speaking of wreaths, Home Talk has a great idea for an umbrella wreath for spring that provides a unique and beautiful welcome to your family and guests!

Only for Her is not really “only for her”. Men and boys can have good time with these 10 easy button crafts. Gluing colorful buttons to tired picture frames or lamp shades adds a bit of zing to otherwise dull pieces. You can find all shapes, colors, sizes and styles of buttons at a craft or retail department store.
