As I prepared to write this blog, a news report stated that Bruce Willis, a 67-year-old actor I’ve always enjoyed watching on television and the big screen, is suffering from aphasia.
Aphasia is a condition brought on by a brain injury, a tumor, or potentially, a stroke, and it has negatively impacted Willis’ cognitive abilities, leading him to leave his career as an acclaimed actor.
This sounds a lot like Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, considering the cognitive connection, and fortunately, Willis’ family is providing the care and support he needs now and will need going forward.
This prompted me to think about the specialized care services we offer that provide comfort for those suffering from physically and mentally debilitating diseases, along with vital respite care for weary family caregivers.
Specialized care services and respite care are lifelines for family caregivers, and Home Helpers® is proactive in skillfully training our compassionate caregivers to provide exceptional in-home care for seniors suffering from Aphasia, Alzheimer’s, and dementia, as well as those recovering from a stroke.

Home Helpers Respite Care Services
Caregiving has both positive and negative effects on the family caregiver. It is very gratifying to help a family member with activities of daily living. But day after day, week after week, caregiving can become a burden to family caregivers.
Some of the negative aspects of family caregiving include absenteeism from work and difficulty engaging in social interactions or relationships with others due to time constraints caused by caregiving duties. After all, caregiving often takes precedent over self-care and family obligations. With the weight of these commitments, family caregivers often experience a decline in their own physical and mental health, because their own needs are not being met.
Moreover, there are emotional strains involved, especially when caring for a family member or loved one becomes long-term. Long-term in-home care will change the trajectory of the personal and professional life of a family caregiver, which can easily lead to burn-out.
Respite care provides a necessary break for the family caregiver and some exceptional TLC for your loved one. Respite care is our way of Making Life Easier℠ for you and your loved one.
