Home Helpers Senior Care East Longmeadow, MA, Honors Veterans

Continuing our series of events ahead of Veteran's Day in the communities we serve, Home Helpers Home Care East Longmeadow helped to serve meals and provided the dessert at the veterans dinner at the Pleasant View Senior Center, in East Longmeadow, MA, with around 70 participants. Many of them veterans, who came with their families.

Around 70 people attended the Home Helpers Home Care East Longmeadow co-sponsored dinner

Great turnout: around 70 people present

Home Helpers Home Care East Longmeadow MA Community Relations Coordinator, Kathleen Mack, was there with her husband, Charlie Mack. They both volunteered to help to serve the meals and drinks to the vets.

Home Helpers Home Care East Longmeadow MA brought the cake with a message thanking veterans for their service, and it looked nice (it was delicious too!)

It was a very relaxed atmosphere, where old friends gathered to meet and celebrate their service and the country.

Among them, there were the friends Artie Plante, 95, Russ Rennel, 92, and Al Bushey (left to right, in the photo below).

The veteran friends Artie Plante, Russ Rennell and Al Bushey are regular patrons at the Pleasant View Senior Center

Russ Rennel is a WW2 vet from the Army Engineers. He arrived at the European theater of the war on its end and had the mission of helping to reconstruct bridges. "The fight had stopped, but it was still dangerous out there," he remembers. Russ also conducted the prayers for last night's dinner.

Russ is originally from Springfield and has lived in East Longmeadow for seven years, now.

Artie Plante, 95, served in the then Army Air Force. He was in London on D-Day and moved on to France, the Netherlands and Germany as the war progressed. "We were known as the bridge busters." Artie's job on the war was to load the bombs to the planes.

Artie has lived in East Longmeadow for 70 years and, after the war, he worked at Package Machinery for 44 years, in the department of service parts.

Differently from his buddies, Al Bushey, who is also an East Longmeadow resident, served in the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954, in the 31st infantry.

One of the issues that excited the three friends conversation last night was the construction of a Veteran's Memorial Plaza, which should take place in the area in front of the Senior Center.

This was the second year we participated in this event at the Pleasant View Senior Center, and we sure plan to continue to do it in years to come. Our veterans served our country, and it is an honor to give something back to them.
