Preventing senior falls: Free tune-ups of walkers and wheelchairs this week

Every quarter Home Helpers Home Care teams up with Louis and Clark Medical Supply to offer free tune-ups in seniors' mobility equipment. The initiative aims at increasing security and reducing fall risk among seniors in our community.

Falling due to balance issues is the main cause of injuries in seniors. More than one in three people over age 65 fall each year. According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), 1.6 million older adults seek emergency care each year for fall-related injuries, fractures or head trauma.Tune up your walker in Wilbraham (MA), Enfield (CT) and Somers (CT) to prevent falls

Simple measures, like tuning up their mobility equipment (wheelchairs and/or walkers) could help to prevent a few of these injuries.

Tune-ups in Wilbraham (MA), Somers (CT) and Enfield (CT)

Tune-ups will happen in Wilbraham (MA), Somers (CT) and Enfield on Tuesday (April 2nd). On Wednesday (April 3rd) it is the turn of Longmeadow and East Longmeadow (MA).

Our Community Care Coordinator Nicole Matson will also be available in these localities to answer questions about in-home care and Home Helpers services for seniors.

The free tune-ups are part of Home Helpers Home Care Enfield philosophy of engaging in local activities in the cities we serve. For us, senior care is not just a home care business, but a mission of helping seniors to age at home, independently and healthy, for as long as possible. When we tune up their walkers and chairs, we are helping them to keep their mobility and independence.

Home Helpers Home Care Enfield supports local Senior Centers

This pro bono service also solidifies our partnerships with the senior centers in our region. We believe that the activities offered by the centers are an integral part of any care plan aimed at providing quality of living to seniors. When they go to their local senior centers they engage in physical activities and social events that help to keep them healthy and socially active. We actively incentive our clients and the elderly in our families to participate in Senior Center activities as much as possible.

The can be done either on their own when they are still able to drive to the center, or with the support of a caregiver, which then is responsible for the driving and for making sure that their client stays safe throughout the journey.

Our tune-ups are organized in partnership with Louis and Clark Medical Supply, established in Western Massachusetts in 1965, with stores in Springfield (MA), Easthampton (MA) and (CT), and East Longmeadow.

Given to the high demand, we now offer the service in 14 different localities in North Central CT and Western Massachusetts, once every quarter.
