About Us

Barbara and Shawn Singleterry

Whether you’re in need of 24/7 care, an hour of care or you’re interested in Direct Link services and a wellness call, we are thankful you’re considering Home Helpers of Gold Country. I’m Barbara Singleterry and I own this business with my husband, Shawn Singleterry.

At Home Helpers, we specialize in providing comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Home Helpers also offers Direct Link, its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor with GPS locator and an automated medication dispenser. Our goal is to help families care for their loved ones so they can focus on spending quality time together – not just being full-time caregivers.

When you call Home Helpers of Gold Country, you’re calling me and you’re calling Shawn. You aren’t calling some giant corporation with no direct connection to the people in this community. And we are different because we’ve been in the position many of our clients are facing, we know what high-quality care should look like and we are directly responsible for our caregivers. That means we can ensure you are getting the care you deserve and we are here if you need anything.

Home Helpers of Gold Country offers free in-home consultations and we’ll work with you to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on your individual needs. Services offered include personal care such as grooming, bathing, ambulation, medication management and care management as well as respite care, meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, companionship and transportation. We serve people in Placer, El Dorado, Sacramento Counties and the surrounding areas.

Shawn and I are no strangers to in-home caregiving. In fact, my grandmothers and my parents all have needed in-home care and Shawn’s mom recently also benefitted from professional, in-home care. Professionally, I’ve worked in caregiving, first as a client liaison in home health care and then in caregiver staffing before putting my career on hold to raise my family. When I returned to the workforce, I worked for a biopharmaceutical company in the Medical Services department. Shawn started his career as a Navy Corpsman and is now an engineer with experience managing major programs for the military. Shawn and I are both Californians, with family in both Southern and Northern California.

We are a blended family and, when our last child left the nest, we started looking for a way that would fit both my need to make a difference in people’s lives and my background in caregiving as well as Shawn’s business expertise. We researched several franchises before decided that Home Helpers would be the best fit for us. In addition to our level of care, I think Home Helpers is different because we are flexible. We don’t have a minimum number of hours and we’ll work with you to build a plan that best suits your needs.
