Alzheimer’s & Dementia Care

Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care

The challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia can be overwhelming. Our carefully selected Caregivers are trained by Certified Dementia Practitioner Jackie Raschke, using the very latest information regarding care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.

Azlheimer’s Training Home Helpers of Hinsdale

Jackie trains each caregiver in the first steps of the Alzheimer’s Association Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer’s Care – a widely respected program that focuses on providing necessary care while preserving a person’s dignity.

Our Caregivers are trained to:

Effectively communicate with people who have dementia.
Perform personal care tasks as needed while encouraging the person with dementia to remain as independent as possible.
Encourage good nutrition and proper hydration
Respect the person’s privacy while providing necessary supervision.
Manage the agitation and behavioral changes that are often part of dementia.
Engage the client in brain-stimulating activities.
Engage the client in calming activities.

Dementia Certification

While dementia care is part of every caregiver’s training, Home Helpers also offers caregivers the option to earn Dementia Care Certification. This 12-hour course uses the Best Friends Approach, as well as other dementia training modules to equip the Caregiver with enhanced skills to properly care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

Caregivers are encouraged to obtain this certification, which also is offered to family caregivers throughout the community.

In addition to training, Jackie provides our Caregivers and client families with ongoing support. She is available to assess a client’s changing needs, to address a family’s new concerns, or to help a caregiver with skills that are specific to a client’s situation. In short, our Caregivers and our clients’ families have access to a dementia expert any time it is needed.

To speak with Jackie directly about the care she and her highly trained staff can provide, send an email to jackie@homehelpershomecare.com, or call (630) 323-7231.
