2016 Caregiver of the Quarter - First Quarter

Caregiver of the Quarter Teresa

Caregiving was new to both Ruth and Teresa when the two met six years ago. At 96 years old, Ruth was in need of some extra help for the first time in her life, and Teresa was embarking on a new career as a Home Helpers caregiver.

“We were blessed with each other,” said Teresa, Home Helpers’ newest Caregiver of the Quarter.

“Teresa always goes above and beyond,” said Care Manager Michelle Pantoja, CNA, CDP, who said Teresa makes it clear that her role as caregiver is much more than a job. It’s something she loves.

Pantoja recalls a situation in which Ruth’s overnight caregiver became unavailable. She called Teresa, who within the hour arrived at Ruth’s home, ready to spend the night.

“I genuinely like caring for people,” said Teresa, who is part of a team of caregivers providing Ruth with 24-hour care. “It’s just part of who I am.”

Ruth said Teresa does “anything and everything” for her, including preparing her favorite treat – lime Jell-O with Cool Whip and pineapple. She also takes good care of her house, where, thanks to Home Helpers caregivers, Ruth has been able to stay.

“I don’t think I could find anybody better,” she said.

And Teresa feels the same.

“We’re a team, me and Ruthie,” she said.
