Village of Franklin Park

The Village of Franklin Park offers the following services to senior residents:

Cellphones for Seniors

This program provides used cell phones to senior citizens who meet the current eligibility requirements. The phones are only able to dial 911 and are to be used only in an emergency.

If you have any questions about the program or have an old cell phone to donate please contact the Health Department by calling or in person at 9500 Belmont.

Meals on Wheels

Senior citizens 60 and older, who are unable to get out to shop for themselves due to physical limitations or who are simply unable to drive, can receive a hot lunch delivered to their home. The provides a hot meal and a well-being check of the senior every weekday.

Meals are delivered between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A spouse or caretaker living in the household can also qualify even if they are not 60. In addition, frozen meals that can be easily prepared on the weekend, are available.

The cost of a daily meal is a suggested donation of $3.25-$3.50, but anyone in need of the program should apply.

North Park Café Daily Lunch for Seniors

The Franklin Park Community Café, open to all seniors age 60 and over, serves a hot meal at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

The Cafe is located at the Centre at North Park, located in the Park District facility at 10040 West Addison, and most days it also includes an optional soup/sandwich/salad bar. Open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., lunch often includes a social event such as a movie or bingo. Come early to join friends or meet new ones.

The suggested donation is $2.75 – $3.00. Your first lunch is always free! This program is part of Cook County’s Community Nutrition Network.

Tax Assistance For Seniors

New forms for the current tax year are available for the Senior Freeze Exemption and the Senior Homeowner Exemption from the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

Free Prescription Drug Card

Leyden Township offers a free prescription drug card to ALL Township residents. Save up to 75% on prescription drugs with no paperwork to complete, no expiration date, no health restrictions. Ready to use with no limits on usage and it covers many pet medications.

Lifelong Learning Center Oak Park

Located at 414 S. Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park, the Lifelong Learning Center provides cultural art programming and social activities for all adults 50 and older. Annual membership is $50.

Encore Chorale

The Oak Park-River Forest Encore Chorale is a no-audition ensemble for singers age 55 and older.

Rehearsals are held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Trinity High School.

Congregate Meals

Why eat lunch alone when you can dine with friends new and old, and all for just $2.50?

Aging Care Connections’ Congregate Meals program serves older adults (aged 60 and older) with a nutritious lunchtime meal for a suggested donation of $2.50. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.at Salerno’s Pizzeria and Sports Bar, 9301 W 63rd St, Hodgkins.

Stay after your meal to enjoy bingo, crafts, reading discussion groups, board games, and educational programs.

Aging Well Neighborhood

The Health Programming Team works with community organizations and health providers to increase participation in evidence-based health workshops for older adults Take Charge of Your Health (managing chronic health conditions) and (A Matter of Balance) preventing falls.

Do you want to get involved in creating an age-friendly community? Or learn about the health and wellness events, programs, and activities happening in your area? Or connect with other like-minded adults near you? If so, we would love to hear from you! The Aging Well Neighborhood program brings together older adults, businesses, healthcare services, social services, and health and wellness education to create a “Health Neighborhood.” The goal of this program is to build a community of services that support lifelong wellness and an age-friendly community.

West Suburban Senior Services, which runs senior centers in Bellwood, La Grange, and Forest Park, has been assisting senior citizens in the near West Cook County suburbs township for more than 30 years. As a charitable, non-profit organization, the agency provides a variety of services, programs, and assistance exclusively to address the needs of senior citizen residents.
