Susan H.

How long have you been with Home Helpers?

I have been with Home Helpers since July 2015.

What is your background?

I am originally from Birmingham and have lived in Jacksonville, AL since fall 2014. I attended Jacksonville State University and I have a Bachelors Degree in Administrative and Community Service. I worked for State Farm Insurance for over 20 years and have experience in auto claims, agency and claim litigation. I have been married for 35 years and I have two grown children a son and a daughter. Growing up, my maternal grandmother lived with us and I watched and helped my mother take care of her.  I have had personal experience as part of the "sandwhich generation" taking care of both my mother and my father while taking care of and raising my own family.  I have previous experience as a caregiver and care coordinator

Why do you like working for Home Helpers?

Having worked for similar companies in Birmingham, I love working for Home Helpers because of their professionalism. They truly have a passion for their profession and show love and compassion for their clients and employees.  I also love how they are involved in the community and volunteer their time.

What do you enjoy most about being a caregiver?

I enjoy being able to provide companionship and maintaining a safe environment for my clients.  I am dedicated to make sure my patients have all their wants and needs covered. I also like to take care of the client so the family caregivers can have a break to focus on themselves and take care of their own families.

I felt like I made a difference in someone’s life when...

I was able to take a client to church the week after her husband passed away. She had not been to church in over a year since he had been sick and it was a great honor to be able to take her to be with her church family.

When you are not care-giving, what do you most enjoy doing with your time?

I enjoy attempting any kind of crafts, binge watching TV shows on NetFlix, watching Hallmark movies, reading, volunteering and spending time with my family.

Fun Question:

If you were a superhero, what would your superpower be and why?

I would like the power to heal.  I could not only get rid of minor injuries like cuts and bruises, but also help ease the pain of people suffering from serious illnesses. Cancer, Alzheimer’s, and AIDs would all be history.
