Home Helpers of Wayland – Caregiver of the Month Spotlight

By Denise Roskamp

Our September caregiver of the month spotlight goes to Fatima Haire. Fatima is from Paris, France, and has worked for Home Helpers for over six years. For the last five years, she has cared exclusively for a lovely, elderly woman that has recently transitioned to needing 24-hour care.

“Fatima has been knitted into the fabric of our family. She has been able to connect with and understand my mother-in-law with such sensitivity and intelligence,” expressed the client’s family member. “We were in a profound predicament when my father-in-law died suddenly, as he was the sole care provider. In one day, everything changed. Fatima’s strong character and intelligence speaks to how well she is as a caregiver. I know my mother-in-law has the best possible care because of Fatima; she is simply a gift from God.”

“It’s not like going into a regular job – working doesn’t feel like work – it’s my life,” said Fatima. “She feels like family; she is everything.” Fatima enjoys taking her client out on errands and cooking French meals including quiches, crepes and filet mignon (her client’s favorite) cooked with mushrooms, onions and red wine. “When I’m with her it’s like taking care of my own mother or grandmother. That’s the only way I see it.”

Fatima holds a secretary/accounting degree from CEFEP in Paris and studied photography at Université Paris 8 and École des métiers de l'image aux Gobelins. After working for nine years as an accounting secretary in France, Fatima moved to the U.S.

When her ex-husband’s Grandfather passed away, they moved in with his Grandmother. For two years, Fatima looked after her, finding joy in providing companionship and care. This rewarding experience gave Fatima the idea of what she could do when she was ready to get back into the workforce.

We are grateful Fatima found her way to Home Helpers and to a career she truly enjoys and is passionate about. Today, Fatima is a single mother with two children living in her own home not far from her client. When asked about what it’s like to work for Home Helpers, Fatima said, “The office staff is like family too – the way they care for me! Home Helpers fully supports me and understands my needs, and whenever I have an issue, personal or professional, they are always there to help me through it.”
