Caring for your aging loved one gives you the wonderful opportunity to spend more quality time with your parent. One particularly fun and memorable way for you to spend this time is celebrating holidays together. Making holiday-themed crafts is a fantastic way to not only keep your loved one active and engaged, but also to empower her with a sense of accomplishment and capability.

This Easter, help your parent create adorable gifts that she can tuck into Easter baskets for her grandchildren, give to a friend or even enjoy for herself.

These cute bath bombs are in the shape of classic Easter eggs so they are perfect for decorating or gift-giving. They contain skin-loving ingredients like almond oil for moisture, Epsom salts to reduce pain and ease inflammation, and cornstarch to soothe irritation. The addition of citric acid creates a delightful fizzing effect when the bomb hits the water, adding to the relaxing properties. Encourage your parent to get creative with the colors and fragrances she uses for festive, personalized fizzies.

What You Will Need

  • 6 tablespoons of almond oil
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • 4 tablespoons of your favorite essential oils or skin-safe fragrance oils. Try getting creative with holiday-themed scents like chocolate, spring flowers, marshmallow, buttercream, or fruit
  • 8 ounces of cornstarch
  • 8 ounces of citric acid powder
  • 8 ounces of Epsom salts
  • Food coloring in several colors
  • Plastic Easter eggs
  • Skin safe glitter or mica powder
  • Wax paper
  • A baking tray
  • A fluffy towel
  • A large mixing bowl
  • A smaller bowl
  • A whisk
  • A mixing spoon

What to Do

  • In the large bowl, add the dry ingredients together
  • In a smaller bowl, add the wet ingredients
  • Whisk together the dry ingredients
  • Mix the wet ingredients together
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
  • Mix them with your hands
  • The mixture will clump in your hands and be moist, and if it is too dry and not sticking together, add a bit more water
  • Divide the mixture into as many different parts as you have colors that you would like to dye it
  • Place the portions into individual bowls
  • Add a few drops of food coloring to each part and mix thoroughly. You can also use skin safe body product coloring if you desire
  • Create your fizzies by spooning the different colors of the mixture into the molds in the order you desire, packing them in tightly to ensure they will form the egg shape
  • Cover the closed egg molds with a fluffy towel. This keeps the eggs from flattening out at the bottom by applying a slight amount of weight to the mixture so it fills the entire mold
  • Carefully remove the bath bombs from the molds
  • Place the bath bombs on the baking sheet lined with wax paper
  • Allow the bath bombs to dry for 2 entire days

Have fun with this project. This is great for fine motor movements and keeping the mind active.
