It’s not always easy to figure out why people do certain things. You may be worried about your elderly mother and her safety. You want to take care of her, but you don’t live close enough or don’t have the time to be her primary caregiver.

So, maybe you mentioned home care options, but she keeps refusing to even listen to you.

Why would that be? Why would she be refusing to even consider any other type of home care option?
Below are three very good reasons why some elderly individuals refuse to even consider the prospect of hiring a home care aide or other professional caregiver.

Potential Reason #1: She doesn’t know much about it.

When people don’t know very much about certain topics, they have a tendency to refuse to even listen or entertain them. In other words, your mother might have various misconceptions about home care and very little direct experience with it.

One of the best ways to overcome this is through information. You can gather a tremendous amount of information about home care options online, but it’s also best to contact a local agency and speak to somebody directly. You can probably gain a lot more insight into the various benefits this can offer your mother at this point in her life.

Potential Reason #2: She assumes she’ll lose independence.

If your mother assumes she will lose her independence by relying on an experienced home care aide, this could be a great reason why she is refusing to even consider this option. She doesn’t want to be reliant on someone else, but more than that she probably doesn’t want to lose her independence.

You can assure her that she will remain fully independent, and possibly even more so than she is right now, if she relied on an experienced home care aide.

Potential Reason #3: She assumes it’s too expensive.

This is one of the most common reasons why seniors never consider home care options; they assume it’s just too much money. However, when it comes to various senior care options, home care support is the most affordable one for most seniors.

It’s best to get all of the facts first before making any types of assumptions on the various options available when it comes to home care services. The more your mother learns about home care, the more she will begin to realize this is an affordable option that helps her maintain her independence.
