Medicare Advantage to Pay for Non-Skilled In-Home Care

Home Helpers Care Available as a Medicare Advantage Benefit Starting in 2019

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated its rules to allow for services that “compensate for physical impairments, diminish the impact of injuries or health conditions, and/or reduce avoidable emergency room utilization.”

The overwhelming majority of older Americans want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. But they may still face challenges and physical limitations, whether because of injury or simply because their capabilities have changed with time. Many don’t yet need the constant skilled care of an expensive nursing facility but are exposed to unnecessary risks by living alone without some level of support.

By making qualified professional in-home Caregiving affordable to more families, we respect the independence of our loved ones and protect them from the day-to-day risks to their health that cause unnecessary and much more expensive medical treatments. This updated Medicare Advantage benefit helps rein in the exploding cost of health care while easing the burden on family caregivers and prioritizing the health and dignity of older loved ones.
