In-Home Care and Stroke Recovery

A stroke is a severe medical event when something blocks the blood supply to part of the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is a leading cause of serious long-term disability and reduces mobility in more than half of stroke survivors who are 65 or older.

Managing the lifestyle changes that can come after a stroke can be a challenge without help. Home Helpers® Home Care is here to make life easier. Here’s how we provide the resources to assist with stroke prevention, recovery, and ongoing support.

PREVENTATIVE

You can help reduce your risk of a stroke with healthy lifestyle choices such as eating healthy, keeping a healthy weight, and getting regular physical activity. It’s important to act quickly if you think someone is suffering a stroke. The chances of surviving and recovering from a stroke are better if emergency treatment is received right away.

Knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke is as easy as F.A.S.T.

  • F—Face: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
  • A—Arms: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
  • S—Speech: Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?
  • T—Time: If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Our exceptional Caregivers are trained to know the signs of stroke and can help with important preventative measures such as:

  • Managing nutrition
  • Exercise and frequent activity
  • Transportation to appointments
  • Medication pick-up and reminders
