Area Senior Centers Provide Awesome Activities for Aging Adults

Fortunately, we’ve been experiencing mild to moderate temperatures so far this summer, with a number of rainy days mixed in. The weather can be a factor that dictates how often seniors get out and about to shop, socialize and participate in community activities.

With that said, I want to encourage seniors to consider visiting our local senior centers, because they all offer a variety of opportunities to participate in amazing activities, like day trips, watching movies, and playing cards and games, and so much more!

To make life easier, I’ve done the legwork to identify senior centers in our area communities for seniors who may be in search of local activities but do not use technology or are uncomfortable doing so.

Bloomingdale

In 1997 the Bloomingdale Township Senior Center was renamed, the Michael A. Miliotti Senior Center, in dedication to the man who was instrumental in bringing senior services to the township. Located at 6N050 Rosedale Ave, the Michael A. Miliotti Center provides a clean, comfortable, and safe place for seniors to participate in various activities. The center is also home to the Senior Council of Bloomingdale Township, comprised of individuals representing the center and other senior organizations. The Senior Council functions as a clearinghouse for activities and information between the township and various other senior groups.

The Michael A. Miliotti Senior Center offers opportunities to participate in activities and valuable resources such as congregate meals; “Rules of the Road” review course; health services; RTA specials user passes; income tax assistance; exercise; pinochle; bridge club; stained glass class; bingo; knitting club; movies; ceramics; poker; volunteerism; temporary handicapped parking permits; vehicle stickers; and voter registration. Naperville

At Naperville Senior Center, located at the corner of Naperville Blvd & Ogden Ave (on the border of Lisle and Naperville), our specialized staff plan and lead enjoyable activities for seniors that are designed around our members’ interests, abilities, and needs. We encourage exercise and socialization, and design adult day care experiences to stimulate thinking and problem-solving.

You or your loved one will love your daily home away from home. Naperville Senior Center’s adult day services are customized to fit needs and interests in a healthy, safe, and fun facility, with a caring staff who loves our members.

The Naperville Senior Center offers such an extensive list of activities that I cannot list them all here. However, they do include arts and crafts, Bunco, Bingo, Bago, card clubs, prayer groups, games, informative seminars, gardening, karaoke, field trips, exercise classes, a walking track, chair yoga and so much more. Wheaton

The Mary Lubko Center, formally known as the Leisure Center, is conveniently located in downtown Wheaton’s picturesque Memorial Park, home of the bandshell. The Mary Lubko Center building was built in 1888 by Judge Elbert Gary to house his horses and carriages. Friendly staff are available to welcome you, answer questions, and help you get involved.

The Mary Lubko Center offers opportunities to participate in day trips, driving programs, extended travel, fitness classes, and unique “Just for Fun,” “Special,” and performing arts programs. (630) 665-1415

I encourage seniors to take advantage of the many opportunities available at our area senior centers to engage with peers and participate in fun and unique activities for a healthier and happier quality of life.
