The experience I gained as a caregiver for Home Helpers was a major help in my school work while in graduate school for occupational therapy. Home Helpers allowed me to work directly with clients with different diagnoses, which I was learning about first hand in school. This experience gave me a better understanding of the diagnoses I would be working with as an OT.

Upon graduation, my first job as an OT is in home care. A majority of graduated therapists never get to experience going into someone's home before actually starting their career, but for me it was already so familiar because of my employment with Home Helpers. Additionally, Frank Esterle (an owner of the agency), was very generous with allowing me to put him as a reference for my job because of the great connections Home Helpers has with therapy providers.

Before starting with Home Helpers, I had very little experience, but that was just fine. The training I received from they Staff Development Coordinator, Deb Piccini, prior to my start at Home Helpers was extremely helpful and brought me a sense of security that I could meet the expectations of a caregiver. If I ever needed more training, Deb would happily meet me out with a client.

Home Helpers allowed me to work as much as I want and always was generous with compensating overtime when I wanted to work it!

Andrew R. (Montgomeryville)

I joined Home Helpers when I was an undergraduate student in college, studying exercise science, leading to my Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT). I am now in my fourth year as a licensed PT, practicing in Manhattan for the largest practice in the market. What I gained from the experience was having the opportunity to learn, firsthand, about healing, disease processes (ALS and Parkinson's immediately come to mind), dementia and other conditions, before I was clinically responsible for my patients. I was able to hone my listening skills and bedside manner, and present empathy in every situation, a skill I use daily in me career.

Brian E. (North Wales)

Home Helpers introduced me to an aspect of healthcare that I do not have the chance to be exposed to in my nursing program. While I do not plan to work with this patient population in my career as a nurse, the experience as a caregiver for Home Helpers has been invaluable to me. Through my employment, I was able to strengthen both my patient and inter professional communication as well as learn clinical skills that I will take with me in my career. Home Helpers was also very flexible with my schedules. This greatly minimized stress from workload and allowed time for my studies and for myself. Hopme Helpers is a fantastic organization for anyone looking to gain experience in healthcare.
