Today we kicked off our Senior Support Group for seniors at the Somers Senior Citizens Center. The support group is open to all seniors and topics include anything and everything relative to aging and the issues seniors may encounter throughout this process.

The group is mediated by Home Helpers’ Community Care Coordinator Kathleen Mack and consists of open space where seniors can gather and share everyday experiences and concerns. Kathleen counts years of experience in the field. Before working with Home Helpers, she was Admissions Director at the Suffield House, one of the most recognized elderly care institutions in our region.

The Senior Support Group meets every first Monday of each month and happens right after the (also) monthly luncheon sponsored by Home Helpers, at the Senior Citizens Center. Today, we counted 36 people present for the luncheon and 10 participants in the group.

Kathleen made a presentation titled "Nine Ways to Keep an Aging Brain Smart" and participants then played Trivia Pursuit.

This support group replaces the previously existing support group for Alzheimer’s and dementia, which was also sponsored by Home Helpers.
