Home Helpers Senior Care Vernon, CT, Honors Veterans
Over 50 people were present today at the luncheon organized by the Vernon Senior Center. Vernon's mayor Daniel Champagne, who is a veteran himself, also attended and the audience cheered, as the Senior Center Center director, Maureen Gabriele, introduced each veteran present.
Home Helpers Home Care Vernon sponsored the entertainment, provided by the singer-musician Guy MacKenzie, who sang patriotic tunes and old hit songs. The atmosphere was happy and everyone had a great time! Besides being a veteran, Guy also worked for 39 years at Fox Hill Center nursing home, in Vernon, as the Director of Therapeutic Recreation.

Among the veterans present, there was Paul Margelony, who was in the Army from 1959 to 1965 and in the National Guard from 1976 to 1997, over 30 years in the service. Paul, who came to the Vernon Senior Center dressed in his Army Uniform, was a radar part specialist and retired out of the service with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had family in WWI, WWII, Korean War and Vietnam. "Veteran's Day is like Memorial Day, a day to honor and remember", he said.

Home Helpers Veteran Care in Vernon, CT
This luncheon was the first of a series of events we are sponsoring and helping to organize to honor Veteran's Day in North Central CT and Western Mass, as part of Home Helpers' philosophy to partner with Senior Centers in Vernon and all of the communities we serve. Senior Centers in cities in our community are essential in providing activities to keep senior citizens engaged, socialized and physically active.
To help in the senior home care of veterans in our region, we count with a partnership with VCC (Veteran Care Coordination). VCC checks if veterans who need in-home care are eligible to access benefits to cover the costs. VCC also files the paperwork with the Veterans Administration and for the home care services of eligible veterans while the government is still evaluating their file, so they don't have to wait.
