Kay Jurica, Owner of Home Helpers Kankakee & Frankfort, Among Daily Journal’s Women in Business

The Daily Journal recently published its annual Women in Business Magazine, which shines a spotlight on area businesswomen from a variety of different industries.

I am honored and grateful to have been included among these amazing, empowered women, and to have Home Helpers Kankakee and Frankfort featured under the home healthcare category.

In the “Letter from the Editor,” Taylor Leddin-McMaster says, “It’s not only fascinating to learn about each woman’s industry, but also the path(s) they took to get to where they are today. Some immediately went into their current line of work and others’ journeys had them try a few other things before finding their passion.”

That was true for me, as well. I didn’t start my career in pursuit of owning an in-home care agency. It evolved after I discovered our community desperately needed in-home care services for seniors. You can read my story online (page 43), but to make life easier, I have transcribed it here, so you can learn more about me and my quest to help others.

After trying with no success to find help for her mother, Becky Fox, as she got older, Kay Jurica decided to take matters into her own hands.

15 years ago, she started Home Helpers Kankakee and Frankfort.

“There was nobody to call and nobody to help. I said to myself, ‘If I am having this problem, there must be others, many others,’” Jurica recalled.

Home Helpers, located in Bourbonnais, provides home care and assistance to clients. Home Helpers is non-medical and has clients in Kankakee and southern Will County. Home Helpers serves in homes and also helps in institutions.

To make a good home helper, Jurica said an employee must have “a desire to care.”

Daily work can vary, Jurica said, “When you work with the public, days are not typical.”

Her ultimate goal? “We want to make sure they are happy and that everything is OK.”

Looking toward the future, Jurica wants to continue to add helpers and clients as well as educate the public.

A native of Manteno, Jurica’s grandfather was the town blacksmith and helped build Route 50. Jurica received a degree from Kankakee Community College and worked in respiratory therapy at both Riverside and Saint Mary’s. Of the country, she loves the “hometown feel.”

Jurica serves on the Board of Options – Center for Independent Living, which provides services for a wide range of people with disabilities. She’s been married to John, a retired doctor, for 23 years, and they have a blended family of five including Megan, Allison, Jillian, JohnMichael, and Hannah.

In her free time, Jurica works on jigsaw puzzles, reads John Grisham and is an extensive traveler, having been to Lourdes, Fatima, Rome, and Jerusalem. “Everywhere and anywhere.”

Home Helpers is located at 151 W. Harrison St., Bourbonnais.

At Home Helpers, my team and I will never compromise on providing exceptional care for our clients. I only employ professional caregivers who are thoroughly background-checked, licensed, bonded, and insured, and they all truly care about people. They compassionately assist seniors and the differently-abled where they are in order to make life easier, happier, and more fulfilling every day.

Some caregivers are certified in specialized Alzheimer’s and dementia care and Parkinson’s care, while others prefer 24-hour shift care for clients who require help 24/7/365. They all provide in-home care services that include transportation assistance, grocery shopping, pharmacy pick-ups, medication reminders, personal care, homemaking tasks, meal planning and preparation, companion care, support for stroke recovery, recuperative care, and so much more.

I am available for a FREE Consultation to discuss the many ways a perfectly matched caregiver can provide assistance for you or someone you love. This comprehensive assessment of needs will allow me to create a customized care plan to best support you or your loved one at home, in assisted living, or at a skilled nursing facility.
