Senior Adult Recreation and Health Care (SarahCare) has been providing day services for seniors since 2001 in the Santa Clara County city of Campbell, CA. Here, seniors receive high quality caregiving along with meaningful socialization among peers, 6 days a week at their centrally located facility.
SarahCare day center provides socialization among those of similar generations and motivates seniors to participate in daily activities. These daily experiences bring meaning to seniors’ daily lives and build a sense of community, reducing isolation and positively affecting senior health. SarahCare’s staff encourages families to consider day services for loved ones as a unique opportunity to reduce caregiver burden during the work day, making it possible to keep seniors in their family homes and familiar settings.
The monthly calendar is packed with events and programs which include involvement of local high school volunteers, neighborhood pre-schools, music schools, and collaborations with students and teachers from Mission College and West Valley College. The SarahCare facility provides a variety of services including breakfast and afternoon meals, exercise programs, art activities, games, outdoor patio time, learning programs, musical performances, movie showings, salon services, as well as bathing and showering services. The bathroom facilities have a large shower and sit-in tub which serve as a great resource for family members who are caring for their loved ones and need support with hygiene and bathing routines.
The trained and caring staff of SarahCare promotes the individualization of caregiving for each senior. In our diverse community of Silicon Valley, it is part of SarahCare’s vision to provide client-centered care and respect each senior’s needs and individuality with compassion. SarahCare staff are experienced in providing care for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementia related symptoms, stroke, Parkinson’s, diabetes, Huntington’s, cardiac conditions, physical disabilities and accommodate seniors from high to low cognitive, mobility, and independence skills. The daily motto that guides their caregiving practices for their clients is “Safe and Happy”, which means adjusting their staff to client ratio depending on the needs of their current clients.
